Kidney for Rakesh

My Story

Imagine you are 60 years old and discover you, no fault of your own, have inherited a (PKD) degenerative kidney disease. This is what I discovered, a person who had lived naturally healthy and had never set a foot in the hospital all his life.  Now 7 years later with deteriorating kidneys, I need a kidney transplant.

A bit more about me

I have been married to my lovely wife for 18 years. I have three kids: two of whom are adults and 14-year-old boy who is going to start a high school this fall. As I have contributed to the success of my older children in becoming decent human beings, independent, and contributors to the society in their respective professions, I want to be there for my 14-year-old and help him to grow in the same fashion. He is a bright student dreaming about creating things that will make the world a better place and improving a human life. My father passed away because of kidney disease when I was only 7 years old.  You can imagine how difficult life would be for a boy to grow up without his presence, his guidance, and his support. Now I do not want my 14-year-old son to experience the same.

Living Spiritually

Though I had worked hard to support myself through college, I thank for the support of my family in reaching where I am today. I have always been a thankful spiritual person who is guided by philosophy and science. I love to learn about our world and share the knowledge. As a practicing Aurveda, Natural Medicine, in my own life for the last eighteen years, I have shared Ayurvedic healthy life styles with many with health issues and showed them how to live healthy physically, mentally, and spiritually in all aspects of life.

Why I Need a Kidney Now

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a genetic disease that deteriorates the kidney function and there is NO cure for it, except to go on dialysis. Dialysis puts a strain on your other organs, causing them to work harder, shortening your life span. Receiving a kidney from a living donor would eliminate the need for dialysis and allow me to live a life without restrictions and limitations. A living donor kidney lasts 10 years longer than a deceased donor kidney. It would allow me to participate and be more active in my young son’s life, grow old with my wife, and play with my grandchildren. It would give me the opportunity to educate and guide others who have similar kidney disease. I dream of the day that I would wake up and feel healthy again! It would be such a blessing for me and my family if I were to receive a kidney transplant. Whoever you are, I guarantee your kidney will be in “good hands” kept healthy by a person who has been very much health conscious all his life.

This would truly be the gift of life!

How You Can Help

By sharing my story to your group of family and friends, you help to increase the number of people who may consider kidney donation.

You can also support me and other patients in need of a transplant by being screened to become a kidney donor with the NKR. The process is easy to complete and potential donors have access to the NKR’s nationwide donor support network.
